Youppi! was originally created by Acme Mascots when he was commissioned by the former VP of the Montreal Expos in 1979. When the Expos moved to DC in 2004, the Canadiens announced that he would now be the first-ever mascot of the hockey team, officially becoming the first mascot to ever switch between any two major sports leagues.
