Obadiah Stane was the business partner of Howard Stark and when Howard died, Stane took over as CEO until a few years later when Tony Stark was ready to take over. Years later Stane ordered a hit on Tony Stark through the Ten Rings, but they instead kidnapped him after they realized who he was. When Tony escaped the Ten Rings with his armored suit, Stane was later able to attain the broken pieces of it in the desert and create his own version of it.
