The Buick Skylark intermediate with the Gran Sport option was the 1965 Skylark Gran Sport. The Gran Sport had the highest engine authorized by GM, a 401 cubic inches (6.6 liters) Buick V8, despite the Skylark already having a 300 cubic inches (4.9 liters) V8 (called a 400 by Buick because that was the maximum engine size allowed in intermediate body cars). The "nailhead" engine had a power output of 325 horsepower and a torque output of 445 lb-ft.
