Sandwiched between Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush was the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Wilson Reagan. Coming from a poor family in northern Illinois, Reagan began his career as a sports announcer. He began acting in 1937 and was President of the Screen Actors Guild until 1962 when he took an active interest in politics. He served as Governor of California in 1966 and finally, was elected U.S. President in 1980. His successful work with the economy is still called "Reaganomics" today.
