Moses' father-in-law is introduced as Reuel in Chapter 2, but by Chapter 3 he's introduced by a different name, which also happens to be one of TV's Beverly Hillbillies. Name him.
Answer Jethro
Reuel means "friend of God." In addition to Reuel/Jethro, other people had two names in the Bible, such as Jacob/Israel, Simon/Peter, Saul/Paul, so it's not unusual. Reuel's name change could have occurred after his own encounter with God, or perhaps it reflects a last name or nickname. Curiously, the name today has a certain southern hick charm to do it. The Beverly Hillbilly called Jethro was Jed Clampett's nephew, the son of his sister. Pearl Bodine.
