Like his female counterpart, this actor often played the part of men much older than his actual age. His wrinkled face and whiskers, set off by an exaggeratedly old voice made him the perfect pick for the sidekick in such films as, The Far Country and How the West was Wonalongside Jimmy Stewart and The Cowboy and the Lady with Gary Cooper.
Answer Walter Brennan
Walter Andrew Brennan began as a bank clerk, then enlisted as a private in the army during WWII. He worked as a financial reporter for a Boston newspaper and planned to move to Guatemala to grow pineapples. Lucky for us, he only made it as far as Los Angeles, where he made and then lost a fortune in real estate. Starting with bit parts for $7.50 a day, Brennan worked his way into Hollywood, and our hearts, as the aging sidekick you never grow tired of. Brennan received three Academy Awards for his efforts and was nominated for a fourth. You may remember him most recently from his work in early Disney films including, The Gnome-Mobile and Support Your Local Sheriff.
