Let's light things up! What was the operation name for the Anglo-U.S. invasion of northwest Africa – the first mass involvement of U.S. troops in North Africa?
Answer Operation Torch
In November of 1942, the Anglo-U.S. invasion of northwest Africa torched it up in Operation Torch, providing a "second front" that Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin kept pushing. This three-pronged attack of Casablanca, Oran, and Algiers allowed the Allied forces to remove pressure in Egypt and better launch their invasion of Southern Europe. Not only was this the first event in which the U.S. got its hands dirty in North Africa, but it was the first ever airborne assault implemented by the U.S. anywhere.
