In a testament to the show's popularity - as well as Lucille Ball's - I Love Lucy regularly featured some of the biggest names in showbiz. As the series approached the end of its sixth and final season, Ball and co-star/husband Desi Arnaz decided to switch up the format and start shooting hour-long episodes, each featuring a different celebrity guest. This proved so successful that they launched a new series of hour-long specials called The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour; guest stars included Red Skelton, pictured above.
