Rupert Giles was a very important character in the Buffy Universe. He rebelled against his family legacy and became a warlock. As a Watcher of Buffy Summers, he became a close friend of the Scooby Gang and also developed a father-like bond with Buffy. He even defied the Council in order to save Buffy's life.
