Kirin started as the Japan Brewing Company in 1885, but changed to its current name in 1907. The Ichiban brew launched in 1972 with a name that translates to "best." While the Kirin Ichiban you have in the United States is brewed in California and Virginia, it's still produced under the company's strict standards.
