King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in which decade?

Answer 1930s

One of the biggest scandals to ever rock the British royal family occurred in the mid-1930s, when newly crowned King Edward VIII became involved with an American (gasp!), divorced (gasp!), and still-married (gasp!) woman named Wallis Simpson. Both church and state establishments were vehemently opposed, and ultimately forced Edward to choose. He chose love. On December 11, 1936, less than a year after becoming King, Edward became the first English monarch in history to voluntarily abdicate the throne. With his demoted title of the Duke of Windsor, he set off for America immediately. Simpson secured her second divorce, married the one-time King, and two stayed together for the rest of their lives.
