It's the final countdown. Where did the Advent calendar originate?

Answer Germany

As the saying goes, "German trains run on time," so it seems stereotypically German to create a countdown calendar. The Advent calendar – with 24 pockets, usually filled with candy or Christmasy notes – was created by a Munich housewife who was sick and tired of answering the question, "How many days until Christmas?" We've all been there. The German calendars were then first commercially printed in 1851.
