The origin of the candy cane is largely myth and legend, but one thing most historians can agree on is that they were originally white. Some say the added stripe came along in the 17th century as a secret code for the Christian trinity amongst German or English Christians who were persecuted at the time. Others add that a choirmaster at Germany's Cologne Cathedral threw the hook in to symbolize a shepherd's crook. Whatever you believe, I think we can all agree that they're tasty.
