Introduced for the 1959 model year, this pictured full-sized, top of the line model was one of many cars introduced with a name meant to capitalize on excitement around the Space Race.

The Ford Galaxie was a stand-alone model through 1961, but in 1962, all full-size Fords carried the "Galaxie" badging. There is also a properly-spelled Ford Galaxy that is a minivan available in Europe.
