Trevi Fountain opened in 1769, more than 100 years after Pope Urban VIII first floated the idea to sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Legend says that anyone using his or her right hand to throw a coin over the left shoulder into the fountain will ensure a return trip to Rome.
