In which direction are the lines moving?

This one has a pretty interesting story behind it. As it turns out, it was actually created using a Spirograph (yes, the toy from when you were a kid) and a robot. It was the robot's amazing level of accuracy that allowed the lines to go in both clockwise and counterclockwise fashion.
