Although available, TV sets were not common in American households in the 1940s. But they took off in the post-war boom years; by 1960, 80% of households had at least one TV. That number kept on climbing until it plateaued at 98.7% in the 2000s. Then, in 2011, for the first time in history, TV ownership started to decline - largely because the tech explosion has increased the use of internet-connected devices for personal media consumption.
