The first-ever World Cup match took place on July 13, 1930. After learning soccer (or, as it's more widely known, football) would not be an official event in the 1932 Olympics, Jules Rimet (FIFA President) helped organize an international competition to fill the void. Now the World Cup is the most-watched sporting event in the world.
