In what year did Santa's travels start being tracked by NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command)?
Answer 1955
Now a tradition shared by Google, NORAD began tracking Santa Claus back in 1955 after a call from a child. At the time, NORAD was known as CONAD (Continental Air Defense Command). It began as an accident, with children dialing a misprinted phone number in an ad. Rather than hanging up, the on-duty officer Colonel Shoup decided to give out a report to the children who called. Today, 1,500 volunteers and staff members track Santa on Christmas Eve, answering calls and emails from children all over the world.
