In what country did the Christmas tree tradition begin?

Although using branches from a tree to celebrate the holiday reaches back to the days of the pagan celebration of Saturnalia, it was the Germans who started decorating evergreen trees for Christmas. The tradition became more popular, especially in England, after Prince Albert (who was originally from Germany) gifted a tree to his wife, Queen Victoria (Queen of England), in 1848.
