In the mid 1930s, who designed an iconic style of boat shoe after witnessing a dog’s ability to run over ice without slipping?
Answer Sperry
Sperry has an interesting story. One day while out sailing off the coast of Long Island, he slipped and fell overboard. This experience led him to design a non-slip shoe. But what made his boat shoes unique were the grooves he cut into the soles. These were inspired by similar grooves his noticed on the feet of Prince, his cocker spaniel.
