In the failing city of Detroit, the police force gets the upper hand on drug lords by turning a fallen officer into cybernetic being.

The RoboCop suit presented many problems for Peter Weller. Since the costume was so heavy, the actor lost as much as 3 pounds every day just from water loss. The bulky suit also made it impossible for Weller to enter and exit his squad car. Producers found a way around the issues by installing an air conditioning unit and editing any scenes that called for RoboCop to get into and out of the car.
