Queen Mary, namesake of the famed ocean liners, was the wife and consort of King George V. Originally, however, she was engaged to his elder brother, Prince Albert. Sadly, Albert died from influenza a few weeks prior to their wedding. George promptly stepped in, and the rest is history.
