In one notable episode of Happy Days, The Fonz cries. What happens that precipitates this outburst of emotion?

In the episode called "Richie Almost Dies," Richie gets into a motorcycle accident and is rendered unconscious. It's the only episode of the series in which Fonzie refers to Richie as his best friend, and it's the only one where he cries. Garry Marshall admitted that they wrote this in to prove to the Fonz's young fans that it's OK to cry.
