In car design, there are two fundamental layout. One of them is body-on-frame, when both the body of the car and the chassis are attached to a separate frame. The other one is when the chassis and the powertrain are attached to the body directly. What is this layout called?

Answer Unibody

Most modern cars feature the unibody construction - there is no separate structural element to which the parts of the car are attached. The unibody layout tends to be lighter and cheaper - at the expense of sturdiness and off-roading capabilities. That's why most older SUVs and off-roaders are body-on-frame.
