In 2015, it appeared that Salem had finally grabbed the title of second-largest when the U.S. Census Bureau reported 164,549 people lived there, 1,089 more residents than Eugene. But Portland State University's Population Research Center put Salem 2,700 people behind Eugene. Epic fight!
