In 1953, this was developed, saving thousands of lives. Name that vaccine.
Answer Polio vaccine
Polio is a crippling infectious disease that can affect the brain and enter the spinal cord, causing paralysis. According to the CDC, prior to the discovery of the polio vaccination, over 15,000 cases of paralysis from polio occurred each year in the early '50s in the U.S. alone. In 1953, all that changed. A vaccine was developed by American physician Jonas Salk, since eliminating the virus from the U.S. Only 46 cases of paralytic polio were reported in 2016 worldwide.
