In 1473 B.C., who was only the third woman to become pharaoh in a full 3,000 years of Egyptian history?
Answer Hatshepsut
Often depicted as a male in sculptures (as was personally requested by Hatshepsut), the daughter of King Thutmose I married her half-brother to become the queen of Egypt at the age of 12. When Thutmose II died, Hatshepsut stepped up as queen regent for her infant stepson but went full-on pharaoh around 1473 B.C., when she became Egypt's co-ruler. Under Hatshepsut, the Temple of Deir el-Bahri was built and trade was extended.
