As the U.S. said: “If we let Korea down, the Soviet[s] will keep right on going and swallow up one [place] after another.” When did the Korean War - a fight between democracy and communism - begin?
Answer 1950
Sometimes referred to as "the Forgotten War," the Korean War lasted from 1950 to 1953 and was a proxy war for the Cold War between the West and the Soviet Union and China. Fighting on the side of South Korea, the U.S. intended to push back against North Korea and its Soviet-push for communism. Five million people died in the ensuing war, and it ended in an armistice. Technically, the two Koreas are still "at war" with each other, as a peace treaty was never signed.
