The average person will burn approximtely 2000 calories per day by just doing the simplest life preserving tasks such as breathing and standing. This increases with tasks like chopping wood, building a shelter, hiking etc…Needless to say replacing these lost calories is extremely difficult. Best practice is to avoid wasting calories by limiting physical exertion to only life preserving and calorie producing tasks such as making fire, foraging, trapping etc...
