If a patient is DOA, can the EMTs pronounce them as dead?
Answer Not until a doctor pronounces death.
EMTs are not allowed to declare a person as dead except in cases of decapitation or where rigor mortis is already present. Otherwise, they are required to continue offering lifesaving procedures until paramedics or a medical examiner arrives.
