According to Mark the crucifixion occurred at 9 AM (or the "third hour") and was finished by 3 PM (the "ninth hour") when a Roman soldier pierced Jesus with a spear to ensure he was dead. On the other hand, John has Jesus standing before Pontius Pilate still by the sixth hour.
