How do you keep a fire going on wet ground or snow?

Answer Lay down a row or two of your fire wood to use as a base for the fire.

Moisture from the ground up will snuff out the best of fires, but if you at least start with a layer or three of firewood - even if it is 'green' wood or not dry - it will still be better than directly on the damp or snow-covered ground.
