Although King Henry VIII may have had most of his wives beheaded, he was still a hopeless romantic...or at least his declaration of Saint Valentine's Day would make him appear so. He declared February 14th as an official holiday by Royal Charter in 1537, setting the trend for an annual exchange of chocolate and flowers the world over.
