God has His reasons...Why did He flood the Earth in Genesis?

Genesis reads, "The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time." In order to wash this evil away, he allowed only Noah and his family to escape the flood. And then He went scorched Earth.
