From what play is Carousel adapted?

"Liliom" by Hungarian playwright, Ferenc Molnár, premiered in Budapest in 1909. Although it wasn't well-received there upon its early release, it became a hit after WWI. The plots of Carousel and Liliom follow along the same vein, aside from the end.
