The only significant distinction between the 1959 Tank Fairlane and the Galaxie at first was its squared-off, Thunderbird-inspired roofline. Then, in 1960, the Galaxie underwent a major redesign, becoming a low, streamlined vehicle with a futuristic Starliner Hardtop coupe perched at the top of the tree. However, the Galaxie template for the following several years was determined by the year 1961.
