For years, there's been a debate over whether, when added to foods, amaranth is a carcinogen. What is the more common name for amaranth?
Answer Red dye #2
While Amaranth has been banned in the U.S. since 1976, it's still OK in the UK, where it's used to make Glace cherries red. Red Dye 40 has been used to replace Red Dye #2 - or amaranth.
