While that's likely a tall-tale, the hefty president, standing nearly six feet tall, is said to have tipped the scales at 350 pounds. Rude rumors aside, Taft's appointment to the position of chief justice of the Supreme Court in 1921 by President Warren G. Harding, made him the only president to hold both offices.
