Jesus isolated himself in the Judaean Desert for forty days and nights after his baptism. There, he was tempted by Satan, who basically dared him to "prove himself" by performing miracles. In the end, he offered Jesus all the kingdoms in the world in exchange for Jesus's worship. Needless to say, Jesus declined.
