Great Britain was involved with China in two Opium Wars in the 19th century. After Britain created the addiction crisis by flooding China with opium, the Qing Dynasty banned it. This resulted in the British stomping their feet and eventually getting Hong Kong out of the tantrum. The Second Opium War was pretty much more of the same.
