Known in America for its "most interesting man in the world" advertising campaign, Dos Equis is one of the top brands of beer in Mexico. German-born brewer Wilhelm Hasse opened his brewery in Veracruz, Mexico, in 1890, and brewed a beer he called Siglo XX in 1897 to usher in the 20th century. The label's distinctive XX --20 in Roman numerals-- is what gives the beer its name.
