Despite crossing five geographical time zones, Mao Zedong moved China to a single standard time zone – Beijing Time – in order to unify the country. So, when it's 8 AM in the capital, it's also 8 AM in China's westernmost city of Kashgar...although, it looks more like 5:30 AM.
