Created by two graduate school pals in their Stanford dorm rooms, which search engine was initially called "Backrub"?

Answer Google

Despite initially finding each other "obnoxious" after first meeting in 1996 as Stanford PhD candidates, Larry Page and Sergey Brin became fast friends and were soon working together on "Backrub," a research project developing a new search algorithm based on backlinks (the web pages that link to any given page). Two years later, Backrub had become Google and garnered enough attention to earn a $100,000 investment from one of the Sun Microsystems cofounders. Still working out of their dorm rooms, Page and Brin quickly moved out and set up shop (and house) in the garage of their friend Susan Wojcicki (now the CEO of YouTube). One year later, business was booming and Excite came calling with a $1 million offer. The cofounders were ready to sell, even after the price went down to $750,000. But the deal fell through. As did one with AltaVista, reportedly, in 1998. Dejected, they plodded on. Today, they are two of the richest men in the world.
