Crater Lake National Park contains its namesake, Crater Lake, which formed almost 8,000 years ago when what volcano erupted and then collapsed?

Answer Mount Mazama

Mount Mazama was named by, and was an important landmark to, the native people of Oregon, who were known as the Makalak people. The Makalak believed that the collapse of the volcano which resulted in the formation of the beautiful Crater Lake was due to a battle between the God of the Sky and the God of the Mountain. Mazama also lends its name to a newt - the Mazama Newt - that lives only in Crater Lake.
