Commonly used to measure big parcels of land, the term hectare is partially derived from the Latin word for "area". Which of these is about the same as a hectare?
Answer 10,000 square meters
A hectare is equal to just less than 2.5 acres or 10,000 square meters. So to create a hectare of land, you'd want each side of the square parcel to be 100 meters long. For perspective, a standard football field is about .62 to .82 hectares.
