Can you name this trailblazing Hollywood actress, considered by most to be the first Asian American movie star?

Answer Anna May Wong

Anna May Wong was born in LA's Chinatown in 1908. The third-generation Chinese American landed her first leading role in 1922 at only 17 years old. She earned a rave review for her performance in 'The Toll of the Seas' (which also happens to be the first feature ever shot in color). By age 19, she was an international superstar and fashion icon. Fluent in multiple languages, Wong performed in both the French and German language versions of her first talkie, the 1930 UK film 'Road to Dishonour'. In 1932, Wong left Hollywood to work in Europe, citing dissatisfaction with the roles to which she was limited due to ethnic stereotyping. In a 1933 interview with Film Weekly, Wong asked, "Why is it that the screen Chinese is always the villain? And so crude a villain – murderous, treacherous, a snake in the grass! We are not like that. How could we be, with a civilization that is so many times older than the West?"
