Can you name this old Hollywood superstar and longtime Bette Davis rival?
Answer Joan Crawford
Born Lucille Fay LeSueur in 1904, Joan Crawford was a celebrated actress who earned three Oscar nominations, including one win for 'Mildred Pierce' in 1945. Sadly, Crawford is also remembered for allegations of child abuse (as detailed in daughter Christina Crawford's 1978 gruesome memoir, 'Mommy Dearest') and a particularly nasty rivalry with her 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' co-star, Bette Davis. The two didn't just compete for roles: Crawford married Davis's love interest, Franchot Tone, in 1935. After the couple split four years later, Tone remarked, "She's like that old joke about Philadelphia: first prize, four years with Joan; second prize, eight."
