Like the sinister image of a fast-moving fin rising above the water or the dread-inducing dun dun dun duuun of John Williams's score, the theatrical poster for Spielberg's Jaws have became a cultural touchstone for danger. To create his illustration, first commissioned for the paperback cover of the Peter Benchley novel on which the film is based, Kastel dropped by the American Museum of Natural History to photograph stuffed sharks. A Wilhelmina model was paid $35 to pose as the skinny-dipping swimmer, laying across two stools and simulating a swimming motion.
