Sir Anthony Hopkins was born in Port Talbot, Wales, on New Year's Eve in 1937. An only child, Hopkins has described his childhood self as lonely and unremarkable. Pictured here at Cowbridge Grammar School, where he did not excel despite some artistic ability. Inspiration finally came at age 15 ... in the form of renowned Welsh actor Richard Burton, a fellow Port Talbot son. After getting the star's autograph, Hopkins knew the direction he wanted to head: fame.
